Wait, There's a Mac and Cheese Bowl at a Sushi Restaurant?

We get this question at the counter probably ten times a day. Someone's standing there reading the menu board, they get to the Mac & Cheese section, and they look up like we've broken a law.

"Mac and cheese? At a sushi place?"

Yep. And honestly? It's one of the best things we make.

How mac and cheese ended up on a sushi menu

Here's the thing about us — we've never been a traditional sushi spot. Robert and Teresa built Sus Hi back in 2011 around the idea that sushi should be fun and built your way, not something you whisper about in a quiet room. We opened right across from UCF. Our customers were college kids at midnight. Bowls and burritos outsold rolls almost immediately, which nobody saw coming.

So when you've already got torched steak, crispy tempura, spicy krab, and a whole wall of house sauces... adding creamy mac to the mix isn't that wild of a jump. It's comfort food meeting sushi-shop technique. That's the whole idea.

Mac Bowl vs. Mac & Cheese Crunch Burrito

Both exist. They're different experiences. Choose wisely.

Go with a Mac Bowl if…

You want to taste every component separately. The Tempura Mac Bowl is crunch city. The Steak Mac Bowl is the one I order when I've had a long shift and need something that eats like a hug. And the Spicy Krab and Chicken Mac Bowl hits that creamy-plus-heat thing that's genuinely hard to stop eating.

Go with a Crunch Burrito if…

You want it all in one handheld bite. The Steak Mac & Cheese Crunch Burrito (or the spicy version, if you're built like that) wraps everything up with that crunch layer running through it. There's also a Chicken Mac & Cheese Crunch Burrito if steak isn't your thing.

Tips for ordering at a mac and cheese bowl sushi restaurant

  • Don't drown it in sauce. Mac is already rich. One sauce, maybe two. Let the cheese do its job.
  • Add crunch on purpose. Crispy onions, tempura flakes — texture is what separates a good mac bowl from a great one.
  • Order an app that cuts through. Seaweed Salad or Edamame balances the heaviness. Krab Rangoons do the opposite (no judgment, we've all done it).
  • First timer? Start with Steak. It's the easiest entry point into the whole category.

Where to actually get one

All seven of our Dojos run the Mac & Cheese menu — six around Orlando (UCF, Altamonte Springs, Lake Nona, Millenia, Colonial, Chickasaw) and our Tampa Dojo near USF. Select Dojos stay open until 2AM, which is… let's be honest, exactly when a mac and cheese bowl sushi restaurant makes the most sense.

If you're ordering ahead, grab the rewards app on iOS or Android and earn points while you're at it. Or order online and skip the line entirely.

Look — we know it sounds like a dare. It's not. Finding a mac and cheese bowl sushi restaurant that treats both halves seriously is rarer than it should be, and we've been doing this since 2011.

Come through a Dojo, order the Steak Mac Bowl, and tell a Ninja we sent you. 🥷
