Fast Casual Sushi Tampa: Why USF Students Ride for Us
· By the Sus Hi Team
We opened our Tampa Dojo in June 2020. Which — if you remember what June 2020 was like — was maybe not the most obvious time to open a restaurant. But USF students found us anyway, and honestly? They haven't stopped coming.
So if you're near campus, or over in New Tampa, or just driving around Fowler at 11pm wondering what's still good... this one's for you.
What Actually Happens When You Walk In
You build your food. That's it. That's the whole thing.
You pick your base (sushi rice, spring mix, noodles, whatever), pick your protein, pick your toppings, pick your sauces. Our Ninjas build it in front of you assembly-line style. Flame-torched proteins if that's your vibe. House sauces we've been tweaking since 2011.
We've been doing build-your-own since before it was a category. Robert and Teresa opened the first Dojo across from UCF in August 2011, back when fast-casual sushi basically didn't exist in this country. Nine years later we brought it to Tampa.
The stuff people actually order
- Sushi Bowls — our #1 seller, always has been. The Party in My Mouth Bowl is criminally underrated and I will die on that hill.
- Sushi Burritos — the Fry Me a River is the gateway drug. The Ocean of Cheetahs is for the brave.
- Mac & Cheese Crunch Burritos — yes, mac and cheese, inside a sushi burrito. If you haven't had the Steak Mac & Cheese Crunch Burrito yet, what are you even doing with your life?
- Poke Bowls — the Master Ro if you want raw fish done right.
- Krab Rangoons + Buffalo Goons — get both. Don't overthink it.
Why We Beat the Other Options Near USF
Look, there's poke places. There's traditional sushi spots where you sit down for an hour and drop $60. Both fine! Different thing.
What we do is fast. Like, in-and-out-before-your-next-class fast. And it's customizable down to the sauce drizzle, so your gluten-free roommate, your vegan friend (Hi-Ya! Waska Bowl, Livin' on the Veg, Edamame Dumplings — we got you), and the guy who wants everything covered in spicy mayo can all eat together without anyone compromising.
When people search for fast casual sushi Tampa, they're usually looking for exactly that — real sushi ingredients, no reservation, no waiting around. That's the whole reason we exist.
Late night is our love language
Select Dojos stay open until 2AM. If you've ever finished a study session at the USF library at midnight and realized every decent food option closed three hours ago, you understand why this matters. Check hours for our Tampa spot before you roll up, but late-night sushi is very much a thing here.
Order Ahead, Seriously
Over half our orders come in digitally now. Skip the line, grab it, go. Download the rewards app (iOS and Android) and you'll start racking up points on food you were already gonna buy.
We're one of seven Dojos — six in Orlando, one here in Tampa — and Tampa's got its own personality. Come find out.
Pull up to the Tampa Dojo near USF, build something ridiculous, and tag us. We'll probably repost it. #SusHi #FastCasualSushi #TampaFood
